Various Quarters Condemn the Attack on Momin Mahadi and Demand Justice

Leaders from various sectors including education, literature, culture, media, and politics have strongly condemned the attack on columnist Momin Mahadi, Chairman of Natundhara Bangladesh NDB, and demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers.

In a statement issued on December 30, the leaders said that those who attempt to kill an impartial politician like Momin Mahadi, the pioneer of Natundhara politics, in pursuit of power, are enemies of the nation, enemies of religion, and enemies of humanity. They demanded a fair and impartial investigation to ensure justice, and strongly condemned the brutal attack that occurred due to the severe deterioration of law and order. At the same time, they expressed strong condemnation of the government of Dr. Yunus for this failure.

They stated that the brutal attack on Momin Mehedi is a direct result of the alarming decline in law and order, and demanded immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Incident Details

On December 29, after attending the special event “Freedom Fighters Reunion Fair 2025” organized by valiant freedom fighter Dr. Nazim Uddin Ahmed in Tongi, Momin Mahadi was returning home on a motorcycle. During the journey, he suspected that attackers were following him at several points.

While passing behind Central Law College in Bijoynagar along with Natundhara Bangladesh NDB Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farjana, 6–7 assailants blocked their way and launched a sudden attack using iron rods and hockey sticks. When Momin Mehedi attempted to resist, the attackers repeatedly struck him mercilessly.

At that moment, Shanta Farjana screamed for help, and as pedestrians rushed forward, the attackers fled the scene. Momin Mahadi later received primary treatment locally and is currently under the supervision of medicine specialist Dr. Saeed. Doctors have confirmed that he sustained serious injuries to various parts of his body. Had the attack continued for a longer time, it could have resulted in a far more tragic outcome.
